Lest the overage of stars in previous reviews lead one to think that this establishment adorned with a beautiful exterior, well-appointed dark wood accents on the interior, and a name indicative of an English or Irish pub is a cozy and upscale restaurant, it isn't. Pipers Alley is just one among a countless string of regular ol' dive bars, regardless of its updated decor and appearance. Service: mediocre. Food: average, for bar fare (burgers, quick sandwiches, iceberg-based salads, other deep-fried frozen selections). The mac & cheese that seems to accompany every dish is no better than blue-boxed Kraft. Atmosphere: typical blue-collar Clinton Twp./Roseville clientele. When seeing their chocolate fountain obviously left on a table overnight after some form of party the night previous and not cleaned, it becomes clear that Pipers Alley wants to be something more than they're currently capable. Again, referencing the "mac & cheese" comfort-food trend, it only works in gourmet circles if one attempts an au gratin, not "bust open the box and pour out the cheese powder." Add to it that accessing this bar is complicated by its location on the east side of Gratiot and requiring some maneuvering with the crossovers in the median, and it turns out that the effort of getting there really isn't worth the overall experience. Plenty of better choices and competition exist up and down Gratiot Ave. to not have to bother with Pipers Alley.

Decent crowd. The food was ok. Not a constant stream of music. I might go back.

This place has great Soho Reuben sandwiches ( corned beef, pastrami & coleslaw on rye). I haven't had anything else, but this sandwich was so good I had to take my wife there a couple of days after having one for the first time. It's a nice place & the staff are as well! I would give them five stars , but I have to go back & try some other food 1st.

I had found out about this place on Reddit. Some friends and I checked it out because they were airing a pay per view event we wanted to see. This bar was a little bit of a drive away from home and I didn't know anything about the place before I got there, but I was impressed. It's a really good looking bar with a clean wood finished bar and a relaxed atmosphere. It has a lot of seating inside and a really nice looking patio area with another bar. The event was small and the owner approached us to thank us for coming out. It was a nice touch and we appreciated it. I would absolutely recommend this bar.

No thanks. Went in and ordered a Labatts. Almost $4 for a bottle of beer? Everyone else in the area (except hooters) is selling a beer for $2 during the day time. THis place is not worth that kind of daytime price. I drank it and left...never to return.

Good place to stop for a quick lunch/dinner and a few drinks. It's a pretty small place and the menu is mostly sandwiches and burgers. Basically bar food but that's what it is so no complaints. I've had the Chubby Bob sandwich, a burger, and fish & chips and they were all pretty good. They have a good jukebox here so you can find some good tunes to play while hanging out. The service was ok, but the staff is friendly and pretty cute as well. I can't speak for how this place is late at night on weekends since every time I've been here it was before 9. But for a quick bite to eat it's good and they have Magic Hat on tap which is a plus for me. There is also a small outdoor area for summer.

After trying to go to 2 other restaurants (hour wait at one, the other was closed!), we came here. I guess it's a fairly new place. They have a good bar selection. I was disappointed that they didn't have Cabo Wabo tequila as stated on the menu. I ordered the Fish & Chips, which was good, but nothing special. One of my friends had the Chubby Bob sandwich and she really liked it. My other friend had the French Onion soup & Quesadillas. The soup was too hot to eat, but the quesadillas were delicious. Service was great and everyone was very friendly. I would definitely go back and recommend this place to others.

A real dive. $9 for a glass of garbage tasting wine. It was during happy hour time for most bars. Cliental and workers are shady characters. People hanging out with no drinks in front of them. Thought I was going to be robbed.

This is one of those places that could seriously stand to have the old listing closed out and let the new owners have a fresh start. I've been there a few times over the past couple of months, and I'll keep going back. - The bar is beautiful. The dark wood is great and just has a good feel to it. I could sit there all day. - The patio/deck area is large, with plenty of room to hang out with a small or large-ish crowd. - Drink prices are more than reasonable - The new owners (the grand re-opening was 5/31/2014) are extremely friendly and grateful for business that comes their way. They're trying really hard to clean up the sins of the past owners and environment, and they deserve a chance to do so. - The food's decent. I've had a few items so far, and haven't had a bad experience yet. Stop in and give the place a try.

This is what happens when you have terrible service.....closed! The bartenders were first-class @ssholes that tried to guilt the customers into bigger tips. Buh Bye!!

Ever since the owner Tommy sold it to 'Fat Brad' the place has went down hill. Went there yesterday to celebrate my two year anniversary and the owner told the bartender 'George' (a$$hole) to get us a round of drinks 'on the house' and when i tried, George told me 'i think he just meant a draft beer' i was like, huh?! I went and asked Brad and he acted like he never seen me before. Embarrassing on a date. Total failure. Never again.

I got the classic cheeseburger, and it was very good! We also had a half order of nachos, which was definitely filling and pretty good as an appetizer for two people. They seemed to be running out of a few beers and sides though.

I went for the Italian Sausage special the other night. Gotta love dinner specials. I sat out on the patio and met a couple nice Secretary of State workers there. They apparently made it an after-work-stop. So you know this place has to be good!! Nice waitress, service was good. Smoking allowed out on the patio. Not sure about a coat check, but since I was not wearing a coat, it wasn't an issue for me.

Just your neighborhood bar...It's on the east side...I wasn't expecting much... I guess I got what I deserved.....maybe I was crank-a-licious after a long week of Christmas parties at work... I know...poor me right.....Our service was okay....my friend and I ordered two meals, and we planned to split them, but the one item (a hamburger with many items on it) came out wrong (no guac for the one side)...which was no issue for us (we were gonna scrape it!), but the waitress snapped it from the table and insisted on bringing a new one....and by the time she did, we were seriously over it... I probably wouldn't ever go back.. I don't know...maybe I'm becoming a bit of a snob... Is that so wrong? Hmmmm....

We thought we would give it a try, since there is new ownership, however, it was just as bad as before. First, their beer selection was awful and the menu was limited (it seemed they were out of EVERYTHING. Then it took 45 minutes to get our appetizer. The bartender/waitress was AWFUL. She didn't know how to do anything, she never checked back and she was slower than molasses. The only reason I gave it a 2 star instead of a 1 was because the food was hot (so why it took so long, when we were the only table, is beyond me) and not awful .

The food here is NOT good. I wish people would stop kidding themselves! The mac and cheese is the best thing they have on the menu, but honestly, nothing really appeals to me that is on the menu, so maybe I'm being biased? However, the drinks ARE good. Good pours, Great selection.. Then again, a friend of mine is bartending whenever I stop in, so maybe I'm just getting special treatment?! I LOVE that they have Laphroaig too. Oh, man... Sweet Scotch nectar from the Gods, but I digress.. Parking sucks when it's really busy. We stopped in for an hour on Devil's Night and had to park in the business' lot across the street and walk over. And it's WAY WAY to small and narrow. Especially, when Skankasaurus Rex's are attempting to dance, by where the DJ is set up on Friday/Saturday nights. Speaking of the DJ-- MY GOD! I know they're going for a club feel on the weekends, but for christ's sake take it from a 50 down to a 20! Speaking of Friday and Saturdays, I hate the crowd on these nights. Not so much the roided up frat boy-types, but the bar star Skankasaurus' that come in. They come in, complain about it being crowded, talk shit about the bar and the staff the WHOLE time, act as rude as possible and generally just take up space. Then again, isn't that the way this particular type of person acts at *EVERY* bar you find them in?? They have a patio for the smokers and I'm sure it'll be nice in the summer...

Food is excellent! The bar is really small. There are not many actual dinner options, but they usually have good specials and a great sandwhich menu. The staff is usually okay, but sometimes can be slow. I would not go there again on a football Sunday. The crowd was terrible and borderline offensive.

very loud (terrible) DJ rap music makes it impossible to have a conversation. food is gross. witnessed a cook flipping burgers and turning dogs with his fingers (outdoor patio BBQ in front of patrons, imagine what happens in the kitchen). Fights occur all the time. Shots fired in the parking lot over the summer. Owner caters to clientele who repeatedly cause drama. If you're looking for a place to grab a few drinks and relax a bit, this is NOT the place to go after dark. Very small.

Great craft beers available ! Many brewed in MI. Good menu, reasonable prices. Our new favorite place. Also, same prices all day, they don't go up in the evening. Looks like they'll have entertainment and outdoor seating.
